Fed Announces Approval of BancFirst–Spirit BankCorp Deal

The Federal Reserve announced approval of BancFirst’s acquisition application on September 22. Business borrowers should verify transaction timing and the status of pending credit requests.

The Federal Reserve Board announced approval of BancFirst Corporation’s application to acquire and merge with Spirit BankCorp on September 22, 2026. For business customers, the immediate question is whether the banks have issued instructions affecting an existing account or pending financing request.

According to the Federal Reserve’s release, Oklahoma City-based BancFirst Corporation received approval to acquire Bristow-based Spirit BankCorp and indirectly acquire SpiritBank of Tulsa. The Board also approved BancFirst’s merger with SpiritBank and its establishment and operation of branches at SpiritBank locations.

The release announces regulatory approval. It does not specify when the underlying decision occurred or provide a transaction closing date, customer conversion schedule or changes to business lending terms. It therefore should not be read as confirmation that the merger or account transition has already occurred.

Verify pending credit requests

Trovo’s interpretation: The useful response is to verify the status of financing that your business already depends on. The announcement alone provides no basis for assuming either tighter credit or easier access to loans.

If you have a renewal, equipment loan or line-of-credit increase underway, ask your bank contact:

  • Who is handling the request now, and who will communicate the decision?
  • Does the bank expect any change to the review schedule or required documents?
  • Have any changes to your existing agreement been communicated in writing?

Keep those answers alongside your application, renewal deadline and planned spending date. If a purchase depends on financing that remains uncommitted, identify how long the purchase can wait before agreeing to a supplier deadline.

Investigating alternatives can give you another route to evaluate, but it also requires time and documentation. Approval of the bank transaction, by itself, is not a reason to replace an existing borrowing relationship. Use the funding readiness check to organize your own position before pursuing another application.

For deposit and payment questions, see our community-bank continuity review. The concrete next step is a written status check with your current bank, focused on your actual deadlines rather than assumptions about the merger.
