New IRS App Adds Personal Tax Tools, Not Business Account Access
The IRS has replaced IRS2Go with an app offering selected personal tax account services. Owners should distinguish that access from their business tax accounts.

The IRS has launched a replacement for IRS2Go that adds selected personal tax account services, including available balances, payments, payment activity and tax records. For business owners, the important boundary is account type: the app initially extends Individual Online Account features only, according to the IRS announcement dated September 25, 2026.
The free app is available through Apple’s App Store and Google Play. Use the official IRS app page for verified download links. Existing IRS2Go users with automatic updates enabled will receive it through the normal update process. Other features include refund and amended-return tracking, select notices and access to an Identity Protection PIN.
The IRS says its Business Tax Account, other online accounts and IRS.gov remain available separately. Telephone and in-person assistance also continue. Further app capabilities are planned, but the announcement gives no timetable for business-account access.
Put the app inside a records routine
Trovo’s interpretation: easier access can make a personal tax check more convenient, but owners should not treat the app as a complete view of their company’s tax position. Its usefulness depends on which account and records the owner actually needs.
A practical first step is to identify one task, such as checking a personal payment or retrieving an available transcript. Confirm that the app supports it, then reconcile what you find with your existing records. Keep unresolved questions separate from confirmed amounts rather than guessing what an unfamiliar balance or notice means.
If you are preparing to borrow, use that records review alongside a broader funding-readiness check. Retrieving a tax record is one preparation task; it does not establish how much new debt your business can support. Our guide to finding your debt service floor before borrowing addresses that separate cash-planning decision.
Choose the download route carefully. The IRS warns against look-alike apps and unsolicited links and recommends verified IRS resources or official app listings. Start there, confirm which personal-account services are available, and keep using the appropriate IRS.gov account for business tax tasks.
